Anytime is a great time to have an ART Lesson and if you don’t want to call them lessons, just call it A time to be Creative!

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”Pablo Picasso

Art is something that stimulates an individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas through the senses. It is also an expression of an idea and it can take many different forms and serve many different purposes.–Wikipedia

However, even fine art often has goals beyond pure creativity and self-expression. The purpose of works of art may be to communicate ideas, such as in politically, spiritually, or philosophically motivated art; to create a sense of beauty (see aesthetics); to explore the nature of perception; for pleasure; or to generate strong emotions. The purpose may also be seemingly nonexistent.–Wikipedia

This LINK is to all my post (@ The One Thing Blog) under the Art Lesson category. I hope you find something fun and useful.

Here is the LINK to everything I have under my Art category

Below is an example of one of our Art lessons:

Center of Interest is what catches your EYE first in a work of Art.

Examples:

We first studied some Art work from George Caleb Bingham (1800), Da Vinci (1500) and Albecht Durer(1500) and talked about what the center of interest was in these different pieces of Art. I also told them that the Artist might have a Center of Interest in mind but that something else in the picture may first catch the eye of any person looking at the piece of Art. I said that because I just wanted to remind them that Art is a very personal thing. We then went and sketched and colored one picture and painted a second one. Each picture was of their own imagination and creativity except for me asking them to do one of their pictures with a boat in it. I think it went well. They seem to both enjoy Art maybe our oldest does a little more than our youngest. I did think it was cute that our youngest did a portrait of our term 1 composer……Bach!! Our oldest painted a picture of a mysteries creäture swimming under a steam boat.

If you wanted to offer an Art lesson like this to your children remember to show them Art work in books and around your home and you point out the Center of Interest and also let them point out what it is to them. When you start your art lessons even if you wouldn’t consider yourself an Artist be willing to join your child and draw or paint, etc. with them. Not only will you both be learning, you will also be making a wonderful memory to hold on to!!
