WHY? A Psalm 51 Prayer

Why do I do what I don’t want to do?

Why do I say what I don’t want to say?

Why don’t I do more of what I should do?

Why do I say NO more than I say YES?

Why don’t I look them in the eye and give them my full attention?

Why is making plans more important than carrying them out?

Why is this happening?

Why do moments like this and days like that come so often?

Why does the cyber world have such a hold on me?

Why do I sit when I need to get up and move?

Why do I struggle with following through?

Why am I unsure?

Why do I feel like I have failed?

Why have I stopped doing things I meant to do?

Why do I struggle?

Why am I busy with so much of what is not the most important?

Why do I waste time?

Why am I selfish when I should be selfless?

Why don’t I really get it?

Why do I question?

Why am I disappointed?

Why do I expect so much more than I see?

Why do I wonder?

Why am I not who and what I want to be?

Why, Oh LORD do You put up with me?

Lord I pray Psalm 51 to YOU with sincere heart. I pray it over my entire life; my relationship with You, the one with my husband, the one with my boys, as a wife, a parent, a homeschool teacher, a daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, friend, fellow homeschooler, fellow church member and even as a stranger.

Oh, Lord, may all my WHYs be answered according to your grace, power, and plan. I need You Lord, Your word, Your guidance, Your power. I need all that You offer! I thank YOU for a new heart, a right spirit, a new moment, day and season in this life You have given me! I thank YOU that when I am so very weak You are amazingly strong!

Oh, Lord, love abundantly through me, work powerfully in me so that I do, say and act according to Your plan, not mine!

Psalm 51…Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned…Behold, you delight in truth in  the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart...Let me hear joy and gladness;  Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a  clean heart, O God, and  renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not  your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit…..

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. James 5:16

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Romans 826-28

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
   Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes! Ephesians 3: 20-21

My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD.  “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Isaiah 55:8

and always remember…
“I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. Jeremiah 31:3

Have a blessed weekend and know that God is able

Last Minute Prayers

I thank God everyday for my family and friends and the blessings He has given, but there is an area in my prayer life that needs some improvement that I would like to share with you…I like to call it “last-minute prayers”.  I often find myself saying a last-minute prayer asking God for immediate needs such as, “Please Lord, just get me home safe”  when my van is not running right or “Please, please, just 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep”.

These prayers and others like them are answered often, yet we forget to go back and say thank you.  We arrive home safely and go about our business or we wake up well rested ready to take on a new day without a thought of the One who gave us the gift of an answered prayer.

First Thessalonians 5:18 says in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Lately, I have made it my goal to be thankful for those prayers.  To thank God for all of His gifts regardless of how small they seem or how last-minute they were thrown at Him.

What are some of your last-minute prayers?

God answered my son’s prayer for a $85 dollar Lego set with a YES. He found 70 dollars on the ground and with that and what he had in spending and recycling money he was within one dollar of the amount he needed. God showed Nathan that He definitely cares about him (my son is a thinker, he asks questions and wants proof), that He listens, and that He answers prayer. My son saw that prayer is powerful. My son prayed, believing that God would answer that prayer; he would check the mailbox looking for a check every day. He didn’t doubt that God could and would answer his prayer.

18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18

I am a big believer in the importance and power of prayer. As a result I try and pray often with and for my children. I thought I would share some of what we do to make prayer a priority. Continue reading »

Recently, I was watching the live feed from Passion 2011 in Atlanta. I love Louie Giglio and the Passion organization! I have been listening to him for over 10 years now. Every Tuesday night my friends and I used to pile in the car together and drive 285 to 400 amidst horrific Atlanta rush hour traffic just to hear him. Why? It’s not because he was some heart throb hottie! In fact, Louie is the same age as my dad, and although he could out dress me any day, we made the trek because we knew at the end of our 1 (sometimes 2) hour drive we would hear Truth. Louie’s teaching of the Word made me long to know more about my Savior! Those days were so precious!

I remember truly desiring God to send me out, use me and do great things with my life! I knew God had set me apart for ministry some how but I didn’t know what that would look like. Would he give me a huge speaking ministry like Beth Moore? Would He send me over seas to help lead a small village to the Lord? I have always been a daydreamer! I will not even let you in on all the scenarios I paint in my head! But the bottom line is I wanted to do something GREAT for the Lord! I used to valiantly recite Isaiah 26:8, Continue reading »
